my final choice
it’s a bit wild that i have a blog category for material objects, but there you have it. i do like Things.
anyway, this is my newestbestestlatest Thing – my new kate spade purse. it is gorgeous.
also:
– cashmere wrap (YES)
– navy suit
– silk blouse
– nude shoes
– black booties
– golden aviators (free from a friend!)
– cheap after-v-day roses
are some of the Things that make me happy lately.
philosophy of logic
one of the most interesting things that i learned in the last 4 years of university is the notion of flow. no, scratch that. it is THE most interesting thing that i have learned in the past 4 years. the reason i bring it up in this post, is that flow is a state in which you are:
- highly internally motivated
- are keenly interested
- faced with a challenge just at the border of your abilities
among other things. this really deserves another entry on its own, BUT, today i realized WHY it is that the task must be challenging.
philosophy of logic, a class i am taken, is taught based on a book written by ian hacking, a u of t professor (honorary at this point, i believe). the book is incredibly well written, is highly interesting, and incredibly easy. it is easy not because material is easy – it isn’t really THAT easy – but because i have already met all the material presented with in. frequency probability (studied in stats of psych), belief probability (studied in stats of CS – highly relevant to AI!), philosophy of logic (despite that this is the name of this class, i have ran into the arguments presented with in in my other philosophy classes). i’ve touched on all of the math in it.
therefore, i have a terribly hard time making myself sit down and get into the details of the “basics”. i am capable of it, and i did a lot (finished reading the entire book, for example – i am doing all the exercize sets tonight). its just difficult to not get distracted.
therefore, out of a bracelet maha gifted me with years ago, i have made that necklace. it is SO FREAKING COOL. and thanks to my abnormally thin wrist, i am still able to wear the bracelet comfortably. YAY for saving $30.
you can read more about flow there.
jackets
i don’t think there are words to describe how much i want a jacket with sleeves like this to wear.
i think i’m renaming “what i wore today” to “i wish i could wear this today”
the blue jacket from here is even more freaking perfect.
i guess i just like the 50s.
/rant for today
oh, and; i managed to figure out to upload photos to WP. yay for me!
oh, and now you have date display in the blog. aren’t i nice today?
coming soon to an olya near you
okay, while this is not “what i wore today”, i’m almost there with this outfit! isn’t it gorgeous?
bad strings continue
well, it seems fate’s not giving me too many breaks lately. all the important ones are there – my watch got found, tim’s coming here in only 2 weeks!!!, and the picture above is of a super cute and stylish journal i got from lesley ann. she has one identical to it that i’ve been awesomed by, and she uses it as a recipe book and i’m really tempted to do the same. anyone has other ideas?
except, i caught my friend smita’s cold/flu, which started yesterday with sore throat and merged into a headache and sore throat today and will continue by her experience for the next week. yikes!
nothing much has been happening. i’ve had tests (yuck), and that’s all really.
here’s another photo from the races:
LA and i bet split our bets, and we lost in the end. but it was really fun! and we all got to dress up and look really pretty. in case you didn’t know, you’re supposed to dress up majorly for big races, including hats and such – actually, as far as i can think its one of the few occasions nowadays you can wear a fancy hat to without looking silly. alas, none of us had hats, but we all did something special to our hair.
LA curled mine.
CURLS.
i had a head full of curls.
its an awesome look, and i’ll post a photo when i figure out how to do it without going through flickr :P
also, in order to have something to wear for the races i went shopping and bought 2 dresses, a skirt and a shirt. and then yesterday i bought a journal to get 20% off for a hair place thingie and got a free scarf. and i bought a shirt and another dress before that. i’m like all outfitted!
i still need 2 things: jeans, and .. okay i need one thing. i want 2 things; one is a good pair of jeans. in a nice dark color. crisp and dark. that fit. very properly. and the other is a bag that i don’t really need.
yeah, i think i’ll end up sending stuff back with hesi and tim. that way i don’t need to count on fate and post to actually deliver anything.
did i mention being sick gives me a 30 second attention span?
a whole lotta nothing
essentially, the new year started off with a lot of pain (after the a lot of pleasure).
3 days ago, monday night, after spending a pleasant evening in VIP with a whole lotta people (rokham, meto, andrew, and others), tim and i went home where we found a beautiful stand for his kitchen. we successfully carried it in, but about 3 minutes after we did that i tilted it and dropped it on my foot. the next 2 hours were spent in me dying from pain and tim taking the best care of me that i could ask for.
next day we headed to the er, because i got worried that it was looking like it could get infected. they took an xray and it turned out that nothing is broken, and that within a week i should be feeling fine.
at the moment i’m on painkillers – the moment they stop acting i start hurting like a …. like, a lot. a real lot. but, thankfully its only 2 advils/12 hours, so twice under limit. and today i even walked around the block!
today was a very strange day. got up late (as usual), around 2, tim was a sweetie and made me tea, and i dipped head first into work until around 4, when i walked tim to the bus, and did my walk with shady around the block.
i was hoping hesi would come back by today, and we’d go see superkev, but alas, i had neither hesi nor a car until 7:30, thus superkev was not to happen. next week!
christina and i were trying to meet up downtown at her place, so i scheduled that for around 11 so that i have time to meet with kev (if that’d happen). but, she left home with her aunt, so that didn’t happen.
tim and i were going to go out tonight, but after i picked dad up i went shopping, which turned out to be the biggest outing of the day: i got a sweatshirt, and 2 cute tshirts, and a toiletry bag (beige, 3 fold, transparent pockets, hanger for shower), and after i came home, i spent some time with parents and when i was going to leave, turned out that tim fell asleep. so, i stayed home!
and that’s where i am now. watching reruns of csi on tv, and terribly craving some burger king. i wish i moved the car out of the garage anyway so that i could go spoil myself (not like i deserve anymore spoiling… that little silver camera has earned a permanent residence in my pocket, within a little velvet bag that suits it perfectly). i should go and whip something tasty and healthy anyway, cause my parents fridge has about 40 times more variety and content than tim’s :))
tomorrow: work on the project. meeting with oleg + co for a going away party. eat. drink. talk.
saturday: dave (friend from cs program) has his birthday dinner. drink. eat. talk.
sunday: work!
monday: work!
tuesday: submit work!
wednesday: get haircut! and hopefully get hesi to go to superkevs for an evening.
and more!
i am preemptively missing everyone.
