things i want to do once i graduate

once graduate:
paint the living room. grey. and hang art! (mom’s, stalker’s, mine).
go outside and take photographs (in the magic hour. i miss daylight!)
take shady for a walk downtown (similarly, miss shady AND daylight)
read a book in the park (… daylight …)
tan ( … )
contemplate that i am about to graduate somewhere peaceful. like a park.
under the sun.
with a book.

i really need sunlight.

once start working again:
get a metafilter account.
get a flickr pro account.
get nice lamps for the living room.
get Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX or Sigma 20mm f/1.8 EX or Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro. All. So. Good. and all are under $500 USD. not even sure which one i want more! f1.8 wide angle? man.

  1. I’ll be getting the Sigma 105mm Macro within 2 weeks as a birthday present to myself, among other things. Good choice, grasshopper!

Pity about that first pic being blurry. It’s my favorite of the 3 here.

  2. i think the 28-70mm and 105mm lenses are the most useful ones. you already have a super-wide, no? f1.8 isn’t that useful in super wide since you don’t need fast shutter speeds. you can shoot down to 1/20 handheld with a 20mm lens. the 105mm is a great lens. very sharp, fast, and excellent for macro work. the autofocus kinda blows (slow and noisy) but when shooting macros you want to use manual focus anyway.

  3. But Kev, THE EFFECT OF F1.8 WITH A WIDE! :P

    Yeah, you’re right.

That narrows it down to two lenses to drool about :P (and a flash… hehe)

  4. hehe you won’t notice much difference in dof in a wide angle lens. the shorter the focal length, the more dof you get. f1.8 doesn’t give you a very dramatic result at 20mm unless the subject is quite close to the lens (dof is shallower closer to the lens).

  5. doh, i guess you’re right!
*sniff* way to kill my dreams ;)

i guess i just like wide. but in retrospect, with the 12mm/f3.5 (i guess its more like 17mm with the sensor crop) it works fairly well.
