the coolest illusion i have ever seen

which way is the dancer spinning?

i saw it clockwise right away and couldn’t switch for like 10 minutes. tim saw it counter clockwise and had a moderately easy time switching.

so then i switched.

now i can’t switch back.

this is fun and infuriating at the same time. which way do you see first?

  1. HOLY CRAP ON THE ROCKS!! AN ENTRY?!!? THE SKY IS FALLING!!

Clockwise at first, but couldnt switch at all. That is……until I devised a technique! I held my index finger between my eyes and the animation and started moving my finger counter-clockwise. That’s when I was able to switch. Oh and it works in reverse also.

  2. GOSH THANK YOU RSS READER!
I saw it clockwise first (right-side), went to read the brain functions and it changed direction.
Then i thought using feelings to see the future in big pictures was kinda cool after all, so i challenged myself to turn it around. Although i do need the math and science stuff, darn it.
During a 3-4 minutes span, it changed every 30 seconds or so. Spooky!
Although Diny’s fix-your-brain method works really well, i came up with another one.
When you’re looking at it spinning in one direction, you’re extrapolating a 3d object from a 2d shape.
If you’re imagining the leg serving as axis always being in front of the other one (especially when they cross each other), it changes direction at every half-rotation. So using a trick like that, you can pretty much change the direction whenever you want …
    Yeah! take that, brain!

  3. diny ,your trick i haven’t seen anywhere. luke – i’ve read about yours, but it doesn’t work for me.

the only way i can switch now is to block everything out except for her calf with my hands, close one eye, and then wait for the leg to look like its swinging back and forth. then i can change.

tim just saw me do this for the 30th time and called me a kook.

dang it i might be a kook BUT I CAN SWITCH HER DIRECTION DARN IT.
