omfg good lighting!
it better be; its from a catalogue shot :P
Oh you wanna bust out the nitpicks yo? DO YA?!
From a design standpoint, it leaves a lot to be desired. First of all, there’s no spark about it. Shes just standing there with a twisted foot, no facial expression, and holding up her skirt with her left hand. Nevermind the horrible airbrushing on her legs, especially her right one. And the light looks dim; crappy atmosphere.
I mean, I know it’s a catalog shoot, but I’ve seen a few and mostly they try to pimp out the lighting and atmosphere (not to mention models’ poses) to make it seem more appealing to potential clients.
Critical people like us can see past that, but like you mentioned in Kev’s journal, most people dont notice the details.
Oh and whenever you post pictures about clothes or accessories you want, 90% of the time, i think “heh, olya would definitely use something like that”
i think the look is called “refugee chic” :P
Or as so we’d say..
WASTEEEEEED!!
funny; in most fashion shots nowadays i don’t even notice photographic details anymore (GASP BLASPHEMY). its never exceptionally bad (those other photos at kev’s link being a great counter example) , but its usually not exceptionally unique either (kevin’s photographs are the exception)
i like the word exception.
THROW EXCEPTION(UNIQUE, PHOTO);
*cough*
moving on.
but all fashion photos are just about the clothes… unless its an ad shoot, i end up just imagining its me wearing them and seeing if i like the look. (or the feel?).
…
back to my eigenvectors.
w00t! thank you *blush*
i guess i consider all fashion photography to be advertising, and what better way to make someone buy something than to communicate some positive emotional impact? i do see the value of plain and clinical photos of articles of clothing though… i just find them boring :D
well, the difference is that it can be plain and _clinical_ in which case who wants to imagine themselves in model’s shoes? this particular photo is pretty decent – its moody enough to give off the style that they wanted.
i do consider your photographs borderline advertisement, same as you. i’d be really curious to see what kind of photographs you’d take for some of the more modern, less “classy evening” outfits i have in mind!
hm well it does look cool, but you have to look REALLY something to pull it off.
like it’s right on the line of the kind of outfits that just looks BAD if you don’t make it look on purpose you know?
